The Red Steps Challenge by American Heart Association to Rise Above Heart Failure

People have been called in to take 6 million “Red Steps” by the American Heart Association to acknowledge approximately 6 million Americans suffering from HF or heart failure.

To highlight the subject of Heart Failure, Queen Latifah, the famous television producer, songwriter, singer and award winning actress along with her mother Rita Owens who is living with heart failure, are showing their support by lending their voices to the Rise Above Heart Failure initiative taken by the AHA in association with Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation.

Through the “Red Steps” challenge, awareness will be raised regarding the symptoms and risks associated with HF. This will also help in the improving the understanding to manage their condition in a better way by becoming more physically active.

According to Queen Latifah, “My mom’s heart failure diagnosis was scary and overwhelming, but by educating ourselves about the condition, its symptoms and how to manage it, our whole family has been able to ‘rise above’ HF. We are excited to get America talking about HF and sharing the small steps we can all take toward a healthier heart.”

This “Red Steps Challenge” is opened for everyone to get involved:

  • Snap it: Put on your much loved pair of red socks and take a photo of your “red steps.”
  • Post it: Go to RiseAboveHF.org and upload your red-step photograph
  • Share it: Finally, share it with your family and friends in social media #RiseAboveHF
