Neonatal Resuscitation Program or NRP is more than a course. It is an educational program, through which, trainees are taught and trained on the process of providing life support and care to new born babies. A medical professional who has an NRP certificate is considered as one who can identify and recognize different medical conditions that a new born infant is experiencing – like, breathing difficulty. NRP is more than just a program. It is a combined effort of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Heart Association. The Neonatal Resuscitation Program has been designed and developed to teach and train evidence based approach, as well as, resuscitation of newly born infants to medical professionals who are in charge of ensuring timely delivery of babies. They include nurses, physicians, and respiratory therapists.
NRP was introduced and launched in 1987 and ever since its inception; more than 3 million people in America alone have undergone NRP certification training. It released its 6th Edition in 2011, which was on the basis of simulation methodology, boosting the development of vital leadership, team work and communication skills.
The programs features simulation based learning, hands-on skills training, along with debriefing various exercises that with your team. NRP instructors are made of up of physicians, nurses, midwives and respiratory therapists who have both expertise and high level of newborn care experience at the same time.
The Neonatal Resuscitation Program or NRP consists of 2 versions, which are accessible via Outreach and Simulation Program. The 2 versions of NRP are the Advanced and Basic courses. These are available as per requirements of participants.
Advanced NRP Course –
The advanced course of NRP is designed and developed for healthcare professionals – those who are active members of specific teams and capable of providing advanced level of interventions whilst the period of newborn resuscitation, can enroll to this course. This is available as per scope and role of practice.
The advanced course is inclusive of every aspect of Basic course, laryngeal mask airway insertion, endotracheal intubation, umbilical venous cannulation, preterm infants’ resuscitation, medication administration and giving special considerations.
The prerequisite of the advanced NRP course includes RM, MD, GRT, CCP, ACP, RN or RRT certifications.
Basic NRP Course
Basic NRP course is designed for healthcare personnel who have the responsibility to resuscitate newborn infants during the initial time-frame of resuscitation, as well as, those who have the accessibility to advanced level providers’ support, within those few critical minutes. The basic NRP course is ideal for those healthcare professionals who are without any advanced level NRP expertise and skills in their field of practice or environment.
The Basic NRP course contains resuscitation principles, starting resuscitation steps, resuscitation devices and their use, chest compressions, care and ethics at the End of Life. Candidates require completing the basic megacode resuscitation with success.
Who can enroll for the basic NRP course?

Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification
Neonatal Resuscitation Program has been updated in an extensive manner. The updated version offers training and education on the basis of American Academy of Pediatrics/ American Heart Association 2010 Guidelines for CPR and ECC – Neonatal resuscitation guidelines. Once a candidate has completed the course, he/she will get the official American Academy of Pediatrics/ American Heart Association course completion certification and card.
Neonatal Resuscitation Program has undergone reformation. According to the current format, students are required to participate actively and take up the responsibility of learning to the core. The current 6th Edition format also asks for students to complete the online examination before the schedule classes.
For completing the online examination with utmost success, students need to get accessibility or buy the new textbooks and materials. Through the Study Guide, they can get in touch with the key points of the program.
Students, prior to enrolling to an NRP course, need to decide whether they want to take the role of an NRP provider, NRP administrator or NRP instructor.
Having specialized NRP knowledge, skills and expertise will prove to be highly effective and helpful. A professional through the acquired credentials can become capable of identifying and recognizing any kind of respiratory disturbances experienced by newborn babies and in the process, save the life of the concerning babies. With NRP certification, professionals also become capable of boosting the quality and hospital dependability. The ultimate goal of this program is to make sure that every delivery is handled by proficient professional!
